PHIL'S REVIEW - So many people every day have been asking for these
running boards that I had to try a set. I went to our local GMC
dealership Eagle Buick-GMC in Crystal River, Florida (thanks guys) and
borrowed a 2006 2500 GMC Van. The van had the standard wheel base
and the passenger rear doors, no rear doors on the drivers side although
there are brackets underneath the boards at that point. Now when I
got these running boards I knew that they were only 91 inches so it was no
surprise that they didn't extend the entire length of the van. The
instructions were very good including color pictures of where the brackets
were mounted under the vehicle. I had to use 2 jack stands to hold
the running boards in the proper place while I lined up the brackets and
drilled the pilot holes. Then I screwed in the self-tapping screws
and tightened everything down. A short cut would have been to use an
air wrench and put in the self-tapping screws without drilling the pilot
holes, but I didn't have air. The running boards were very solid and
actually looked much better than I thought. I believe that these
were the only van running boards available that came with custom brackets
instead of the universal kit. DESCRIPTION -
91 inch plastic running boards with an aluminum extrusion mounted with
galvanized steel brackets. The van running boards are manufactured
with Polyethylene which is the common plastic used by the OEM
manufacturers Ford, Dodge, Chevy and GMC. These running boards do
not go the entire length of the rocker panel. They are 91 inches
long and leave about 10 inches of the vehicle not covered. They do
cover the entire passenger door section including the front and rear.

INSTALLATION - The installation for the van
running boards is not as easy as some other vehicles. We do supply
several conversion companies with running boards and brackets and they do
install them in minutes, but they are professionals with air tools.
For a proper installation you will need some time, a drill and a socket
set. Each bracket (5 per side) requires 2 holes to be drilled into
the rocker panel under the vehicle. This does not void the
warranty. This is the same way the running boards are installed on
the $50,000 conversion vans. Once the pilot holes are drilled for
the brackets you will turn in a self-tapping screw using a 1/2" socket and
ratchet. DO NOT over tighten or you could strip the screw and have
drill a new starter hole. Installation will take about half a day.
Professional installation is recommended unless you are fairly
mechanically inclined. |
